Six Times I Knew Sigma Kappa was the Best Decision I Made in College

It’s hard to believe that I just joined Sigma Kappa last year (as a Junior) and yet most of my greatest college memories involve my time spent with these amazing women. This has truly been the fullest year of my life, and I can only attribute that to my involvement with my sorority.
Even though these memories don’t capture even half of the great times I’ve had this year, they’re still some of the most noteworthy:
1. When I was preference rushed by the lovely Sarah Perry. Sarah Perry is probably one of the sweetest human beings you will ever meet. Talking to her during preference round made me realize how right Sigma Kappa was for me. We’re both psychology nerds who have a passion for helping people. She’s such a fun, well-rounded girl. I know anything she’s a part of I’d love too.
2.Meeting Angela Cifelli on bid day. Bid day was nerve-racking. Imagine falling into a crowd of over 80 women who are all screaming with excitement to have you. Kind of overwhelming right? The second I met fellow new member Angela all my nerves were calmed. We instantly clicked--- taking tons of pictures and having lots of laughs on such an exciting day.
3. BIG/LITTLE REVEAL DAY. Yes, I will be the cliché. I love my big and my big is perfect. Honestly though, I don’t know if you have ever met Courtney but if you have I’m sure you could imagine how amazing she’d be as a big sister. For the weeks leading up to big/little reveal I was lost trying to imagine who in the sorority would be a good fit for my big. I loved so many girls, but none of them were exactly ~me~. Then I had my Eickoff date with Courtney, and all the pieces started to come together. I never knew I’d meet a sister that understands the importance of taking tons of pictures at the same event to find the perfect one for Instagram or the importance of being girly without being gaudy or the importance of taking a stand for what you believe in. On big/little reveal day when I unwrapped her (she was covered in wrapping paper) I knew we were paired up perfectly. I found a family within a family, and I never felt more at home.
4.Winning Greek Week. As the announcement was made the energy in that room was indescribable. I have never been more proud to be around my sisters.
5. Realizing even over the summer time my sisters are just a phone call away. It almost seems like anywhere I go in New Jersey there’s bound to be a sister close by. My boyfriend’s family and I drove over an hour away from home to enjoy a weekend in LBI. When I realized our destination was a mere 5 minutes away from my grandbig’s house my weekend just got a whole lot better. From lying out in the sun, to shopping in the local stores, Morgan Hopper was the perfect companion.
6. UV Week. Of course, I’ll be proud of any of my big’s accomplishments as our chapter’s Vice President of Philanthropic Services, but this one has to be one of her greatest. UV Week is Sigma Kappa’s philanthropy week and this year’s was so incredibly successful. The passion we all share for philanthropy binds us and being able to attend events all week that both raise awareness in our community and raise money for our cause makes me so proud.
Even though I graduate in May I know that the bonds I’ve created in this amazing organization will not come to an end. I know as an alumnus I’m going to keep coming back to Big/Little Reveal Day to see all the new lovely additions to the “Girly Fam." Most importantly, I know my sisters and I will continue to be there for each other as we always are right now.
