A Thank You Letter

When I first went out for recruitment I had in mind exactly what I wanted from the “sorority scene”: I wanted to make new friends, work with a philanthropy, but most importantly I wanted a BIG. I’m an only child, so I never had a big sister around to braid my hair or gossip about boys or tell me that my outfit was just awful. Despite how awesome people think it is to be an only child, sometimes it’s really lonely and you have to adjust differently to growing up compared to children with siblings. So the one thing I knew (after watching Legally Blonde a few times), was that when you first join a sorority you get a BIG SISTER who loves you, hugs you, and makes you feel special.

While my Big, Amanda (Spro as she is fondly called sometimes), graduated two years ago and is off being a kick butt math teacher, there are so many things I want to thank her for:

Thank you for “loving Eick” and hanging out with me when I wasn’t even your Little yet.

Thank you for listening to me freak out over boys and easing my nerves about first dates.

Thank you for being smart, wonderful, and beautiful inside and out.

Thank you for finding me a formal date to my first Violet Ball because I’m clueless and never know what’s going on.

Thank you for being just as busy as me (even busier!!!) when you were in college, so that I learned it’s okay to spread yourself out and get involved.

Thank you for our annual Point Pleasant trips!

Thank you also for encouraging me at mini golf when I suck and when you’re literally Tiger Woods.

Thank you for all the cute pictures we take when we are together.

Thank you for texting me out of the blue just checking in.

Thank you for loving sushi just as much as me so I’m never embarrassed how much I order at Sushi Palace.

Thank you for being my role model.

Thank you for loving me unconditionally and being the best Big I could have asked for.

Gaining my Big sister (also shout out to my GBig Bri!!!), but most importantly gaining so many sisters in general, has given me that experience I have always longed to have as an only child. So for that: Thank you Sigma Kappa for giving me the most wonderful sisters I could have asked for, ones who laugh with me, cry with me, and are there to share all the special moments with me.
